Mature Dating Fashion

When you've reached a mature dating age over 50, your fashion choices might seem limited. After all, the industry seems to only cater to young women; in fact, most models are in their teens and 20s.

If you change your mindset, though, you'll see that there are actually many designers now producing more clothes for a wider range of age brackets and body types. Liz Claiborne and Diane von Furstenberg, for instance, create some of the best classics that are very wearable for women in the mature dating scene. Take time out to really go through the racks of clothes in the department store, and you might just find that perfect date outfit.

Modifying the current trends to suit your age

· Most of the latest trends on young girls are no longer appropriate for older women, but with a few tweaks, you can modify them and make them age appropriate.

· For instance, bold print dresses are also on the runway these days. You can tame them down by putting a monochromatic jacket over them, and then cinching the waist with a belt.

· Young women also often wear blouses with large ruffles all the way down the front because the extra fabric hardly adds volume to their still-petite frames. As an older woman, you would look better with blouse with less ruffles, perhaps just at the collar and maybe the cuff.

· Leg hugging skinny pants are for petite, boyish frames, so if you have bigger hips, go for pants that taper.

· "Lingerie" blouses are also all the rage lately. You see young women strutting around it silky blouses that once only belonged in the bedroom. You too can enjoy this sexy look by picking a conservatively cut blouse made of satin or silk and has lace detailing.

· How about jeans? Yes - you can wear them way beyond your 50's. Choose a classic trouser cut, which is more comfortable and flattering. Invest in darker shades which are also more slimming. Throw out jeans with embellishments (like rhinestones!). Some jeans these days are even made with slimming waistbands that suck in the tummy area.

Accessorizing

As an older woman in the mature dating world, you can finally get away with chunky jewellery without looking like you're just playing dress up (as most younger women do). There are plenty of fun and funky pieces you can choose from. Dress up an otherwise plain shirt with a statement necklace, and that mature man you are dating will surely be impressed.

Important reminder

If you try to dress "too young" for your age, you will only end up looking even older. Don't force the latest trends on yourself or you will look like you tried too hard.
